Rahu Mahadasha — the 18-Year Vimsottari Period of Rahu

The Rahu mahadasha is the 18-year Vimsottari period ruled by Rahu, the north lunar node. It tends to bring themes of ambition, the unconventional, foreign and unfamiliar domains, and intense material drive to the foreground. Rahu is a shadow graha with a dramatic reputation, but the honest reading is a lens, not a sentence: it amplifies and points toward the new, and how that expresses is decided by the chart.

What the period emphasizes

Classically Rahu signifies amplification, worldly desire, the foreign and the novel, technology and the unorthodox, and sudden or unexpected developments. During its long dasha those areas tend to ask for attention: ambition, reinvention, immersion in something new or foreign, and a strong pull toward material experience often become central. Rahu takes much of its colour from the sign, house and planets it associates with.

Why there is no blanket "good" or "bad"
